Overview

While the mass measured with QCM-D includes coupled solvent, ellipsometry measures the refractive index to derive the dry mass of the adsorbed film. Combining both techniques can add insight into the solvent content, which is valuable in applications spanning from polymer studies to vesicles.

The standard configuration is designed for aqueous experiments, while optional high resistance sealing gaskets in Kalrez adds compatibility with harsh chemicals. The module is fitted inside the QSense Explorer chamber, which is mounted on the stage of the external ellipsometer.

Specifications

General specifications
Compatibility QSX 301 (gold) and QSX 335 (SiO2 with thick titanium adhesion layer). Other QSense sensors can be used but may be difficult to optically characterize. Compatible with QSense Explorer and Pro (via add-on Explorer chamber).
Optical sensor characterization Each sensor may not provide the same optical response. It is recommendable to individually measure the optical properties of each sensor.
Internal cell volume Above sensor ~100 µl
Type of measurements  Flow or stationary liquid measurements
