Characterisation of Surfaces and Interfaces using Tensiometry
– Understanding wettability, adhesion, cleanliness and surface free energy and interfacial rheology
This workshop will introduce a number of different surface based nanoscale characterisation methods from Biolin Scientific. These are powerful tools when developing advanced materials in implants, hydrophobic surfaces, composites, etc. It will give you an overview of the latest techniques for analysing real surfaces and interfaces. We will discuss how to measure wettability, adhesion and other features of heterogeneous surfaces with varying topography.
The workshop will be divided into two parts:
1. Theory/basic principles of tensiometry - what is surface tension and surface free energy, how to measure it plus the advantages and limitations. The application areas of where it can be used will also be covered.
2. Practical demonstrations- Talks will be followed by live demonstrations with the opportunity for you to discuss your analysis requirements.
