A hybrid system with a carbon nanotube coating on the shell of the polymeric particle is constructed via a Pickering emulsion route. Thermal generation from carbon nanotubes under near-infrared illumination actuates the phase transition of the polymer matrix, rapidly triggering particle shape change. It is envisioned that the shape change by near-IR light, combined with the ease of particle fabrication, opens an avenue to exploit smart drug vehicles
