Enhanced wear resistance of sol–gel TiO2 film on a carbon steel in unlubricated sliding against steel ball by stearic acid modification
Increasing wear resistance of steel is of greatimportance for their practical application. In this paper, wehave studied the tribological performance of assembly ofstearic acid on a carbon steel coated by sol–gel derivedTiO2 film. The samples were characterized by means ofinfrared spectroscopy, contact angle measurements, atomicforce microscopy and a macro friction and wear tester.Enhanced wear resistance were clearly obtained afterfunctionalization of stearic acid on the TiO2 surface.
