The relaxation of the proton magnetization of water and hydrocarbons in model porous media has been studied. The chemical origin of the active centers, responsible for the paramagnetic mechanism of the surface relaxation of the proton magnetization has been found with EPR. The difference in relaxation behavior of water and hydrocarbon fluids has been explained by a simple model of surface relaxation. (C) 2014 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
