Amorphous colloidal arrays (ACAs) with noniridescent structural colors, which are photostable and energy-efficient, have enabled diverse structural color-based applications. Here, SiO2 ACAs grafted with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) brushes are prepared to exhibit waterrepellent structural colors. The synthesis and grafting of PDMS brushes onto SiO2 colloidal spheres are achieved via one-step, which can be accomplished within a minute. With the doping of polydopamine, SiO2 ACAs with saturated structural colors can present super-hydrophobicity after grafting with PDMS brushes. Owing to the simplicity and flexibility of our PDMS brush grafting method, encryption of optical information can be done with water as the decryption key; this strategy is convenient to achieve and thus has promising applications for anticounterfeiting, information transmission, and military applications.
