What is the difference between a Standard, Signature and Exploratory sensor?

Standard Sensors – Reliable baseline sensors

Standard sensors are produced using established and stable production protocols, ensuring consistent quality and reproducible performance. They are broadly applicable across many research and industrial contexts and come with full documentation (characterization reports and product information sheets).

They serve as the general-purpose option for QCM-D experiments where reliability and reproducibility are the primary requirements.

Key idea:
➡ Proven manufacturing + broad usability.

Signature Sensors – Application-validated sensors

Signature sensors are a selected subset of Standard sensors that have been experimentally validated for a specific key application. In addition to the reliability of Standard sensors, they provide demonstrated performance in a defined experimental context, giving users confidence about expected behavior for that application.

They are ideal when researchers want reduced experimental uncertainty and a sensor already shown to work well for a particular use case.

Key idea:
➡ Standard sensors with verified performance for a specific application.

Exploratory Sensors – Innovative materials for new research

Exploratory sensors are designed using new or emerging materials in QCM-D. Their production protocols are still evolving and may be refined over time to optimize performance. While they come with characterization data, they are intended for cutting-edge or exploratory research, where scientists investigate new materials or phenomena.

They are best suited for researchers exploring novel interfaces, materials, or experimental approaches.

Key idea:
➡ New materials for innovative research, with protocols still being optimized.

Is it possible to produce a sensor with our own raw material/sample?

Yes! You can submit your request along with details about your material. If the material is compatible with our production technology and devices, we will produce the sensor for you.

Is it possible to ask for an expedited order?

Yes! When submitting your request, mention the need for expedited processing. Our production team will inform you about the additional costs associated with expediting your order.

Are there any discounts for ordering a higher number of sensor boxes?

Yes, we offer discounts for 5-9 Boxes and even higher discounts for 10+ Boxes discounts.
We also offer trays of 100 sensors for Gold and Silicon Dioxide sensors at a better price compared to boxes.

Can we use a sensor multiple time?

Due to the sensitivity of the QCM-D technique, even micro-scale contamination can significantly impact measurement results. While it might be possible to clean and reuse sensors using optimized cleaning protocols and agents, we cannot guarantee sensor performance after the first use. Therefore, for the most reliable outcomes, we recommend considering each sensor for single use only.
