With the ever-increasing demand for cleaner and safer energy, innovations are needed. At Biolin Scientific, we offer product solutions tailored for advanced analysis of thin film properties and interface phenomena.
Quality control of transformer oils
Our solutions offer possibilities to study interactions at surfaces and interfaces crucial for energy storage and conversion. There are multiple different interfaces in batteries and fuel cells that all play a significant role in ensuring optimum performance, manufacturing, and safety. Also, interfacial tension measurement is a key diagnostic tool for assessing transformer oil aging.
Wettability plays an important role in both lithium-ion battery manufacturing as well as performance and safety of the batteries. Studying the wettability at different stages of the manufacturing process is thus crucial and will deepen the understanding needed to produce even better batteries in the future.
Interfacial tension measurement can be used to assess the quality of transformer oils. Our Sigma Transformer Oil force tensiometer is specifically designed for the quality control of transformer oils. It follows IEC 62961 and ASTM D971 standards to measure the interfacial tension between transformer oil and water as a simple quality control measure for the oil.
Battery performance, safety and lifetime depend on processes at the electrode–electrolyte interface. EQCM-D (Electrochemical Quartz Crystal Microbalance with Dissipation monitoring) enables real-time analysis of electrochemical phenomena such as mass changes, layer formation and interfacial dynamics, helping you understand battery materials and optimize performance.
The efficiency and lifetime of batteries, fuel cells and electrolysis technologies depend on electrode reactions and interfacial changes during operation. EQCM-D (Electrochemical Quartz Crystal Microbalance with Dissipation monitoring) enables real-time analysis of these electrochemical processes, helping you understand reaction mechanisms, material behaviour and degradation pathways that influence performance.
