The new way to test detergent performance

Do you work with detergent products and need to find out which components work the best, or are good enough? If your product performs better than competition? Or if you can switch to a more ecofriendly or cost efficient component?

Balancing performance and cost throughout the product lifecycle is challenging. Especially as most cleaning evaluation methods are manual and time consuming, have a low sensitivity and leave room for subjective interpretation.

QSense® is the new way to test detergent performance. With automated measurements and results in less than an hour you can get high quality data that reveals the cleaning process with nanogram sensitivity. So that you can be Faster, Cleaner and Greener.

Get results with QSense

With QSense you will achieve high resolution real-time data on cleaning efficiency and cleaning mechanisms, enzymatic activity and material deposition as well as etching.

You can study your unique case:

  • Detergent or full formulation, product candidates and final products
  • Specific soils and stains
  • Specific surfaces, like stainless steel, glass and plastics
  • Adjust cleaning conditions like water quality, concentration and temperature

QSense Cleaning Profile

The QSense Cleaning Profile is an established and proven method for ranking of detergent formulations with the QSense® technology . It is automated, easy and brings you results in less than an hour. It contains key information for cleaning efficiency evaluation, such as:

  • How fast your surfactant / formulation cleans
  • How clean your surfactant / formulation cleans
  • How the formulation composition and cleaning conditions influence the result

Cleaning profile for web

The QSense Cleaning Profile consists of three parameters; Swelling time, Mass removal rate and Total mass removal which all give important information about cleaning efficiency. See this QSense Cleaning Profile step by step guide for a walk-through of how the measurement is performed.

How to reveal the cleaning efficiency—simultaneous and fast screening of nine different formulations formulations

[ CASE STUDY ]

In this study, which is the base for the QSense Cleaning Profile, 9 commercial detergents were ranked based on their cleaning efficiency. The detergents were tested at fixed concentrations and temperatures with a cleaning time of 40 min. Data was collected in triplicates and the three profile parameters, Swelling time, Mass removal rate and Total mass removal were measured and given a ranking value. The total ranking based on these three parameters, where each parameter can give a maximum value of 10, revealed the detergent with the best performance. Cleaning profile case studyRef. 1. Detergent analysis with surface tension measurements

Detergent efficiency can be linked to its ability to wet the surface to be cleaned. The surface tension of the detergent solution plays a big role in this. In general, the lower the surface tension, the better the wetting ability of the solution. Surfactants are the main components used to lower the surface tension of detergent solutions. To optimize the amount of surfactants, critical micelle concentration measurements are used.

There are several standards available that describe the measurement of surface tension of aqueous solutions and solutions with surface active molecules present.

  • ASTM D1331-11
  • OECD 115
